Now that we are past the first holiday (at least in the US), we are in recovery before the next line-up of holidays. Sometimes it's nice to dive into something different and for me it's the Ancient History Fangirl podcast. The episode I listened to this morning combines two things I enjoy, history and true crime. If you also enjoy those things, the Serial Killers of Ancient Greece and Rome is fascinating.
The discussion on Theseus was a spring board for more research. He had labors not unlike Heracles. Although Theseus and Heracles did a lot of killing. Whereas, Psyche at the direction of Aphrodite, performed labors that didn't involve killing anything or one.
I write twists on labors in a couple of my books. First, in For Love of Medusa (Releasing April 2023). For the love interest in that book, he needs to gain a path to Medusa. I also include tasks in my current work-in-progress,Tempting Eros, again for a character seeking godly assistance for a path for love.
Of course, per the podcast, Theseus killing bandits wasn't part of that but more for glory and making Greek roads safe. And whoa some of those stories and the idea of serial killers in the ancient world really makes you think.
Hope you enjoy listening to this podcast as much as I did. I'm linking to spotify which requires an account but you can sign up for a free account. Also, trigger warning, this does have some mild graphic description of racking and various murders and the incest and political murders, etc.
Thanks for reading and hope you find good reads, podcasts or shows to give you a break from the
